Victoria

This was our last port before returning to Seattle. Victoria should properly be labeled the American Cruise Ship law port. That old law requires passenger vessels visiting only American ports to have an American crew. Since the cruise lines survive by employing lots of cheap foreign labor, it is essential for them to include at least one foreign port. However, visiting Victoria is a lot better than the Hawaiian cruises that stop at Ensenada. We arrived at Victoria late in the afternoon so there wasn't much time available for sight seeing. We took a bus tour that went around the various sites in Victoria and provided a long stop to visit the Craigdarrock Castle. This was a mansion built in 1890 by Robert Dunsmuir, a wealthy coal baron. Unfortunately, he never got to live in it. For many years it served various public purposes and then ended up as a non-profit historical society museum. The last few photos were shot when it was almost dark outside so please be tolerant.
