Back in 2006 I was engaged in one of my many "organize the garage" campaigns when I decided that my dad's old saw horses had to go. They stacked on top of one another but they still took up too much room. I wanted to replace them with some plastic models that would fold flat against the wall. However, I couldn't bring myself to just throw out dad's saw horses. I could well remember when he first made them back when I was in high school, probably sometime in 1956. The solution, as the below photos depict, was to saw the horses in half and than join them to form an "X" shaped stand to support a side table for the two recliners in our bedroom.
| This started by having a custom glass top made. The first photo shows the template I made for the glass shop. The curve at the broad end was copied from the luggage cover in our Lexus RX300. The photo to the right shows the finished stand after sawing the saw horses apart and then joining them in the middle. | |

| I can't say that the finished product represents the height of style, but it did permit me to preserve this little piece of family history. | |
