We arrived in Ketchikan in the morning of August 11 and left at about six that evening. Although Ketchikan is supposedly the salmon capital of the world, we spent almost all day pursuing crabs. We opted for a shore excursion that took us to a place where we would board a pontoon boat with opaque plastic windows and then go out to a bay where we would haul up crab traps and admire the crabs (then throw them all back). After that we returned to their building where we were treated to all-we-could-eat crabs. Not being an in-the-shell crab lover, I settled for a grossly over cooked chicken breast. The highlight of the excursion, other than getting to use the yellow ponchos because it was raining, was to climb the 70 odd steps required to get down to the boat. I think we all had a good time--I especially appreciated getting back to the ship for a big meal.
