Canoeing on the Colorardo

In 1980 my good friend John Citso challenged me to join him in taking canoe lessons out on the Colorado river. We hooked up with our instructor and his fleet of Coleman canoes on a beach just about where Laughlin is currently located. In subsequent voyages we rented Grumman aluminum canoes. It is usually quite peaceful paddling down the Colorado but sometimes when there are flood waters it can be a very fast ride. The highlight of two of our trips was canoeing through the Topac gorge just above Lake Havasu. Except for avoiding the idiot water skiers who seemed to delight in trying to swamp our trusty craft, we had a lot of fun on these voyages. On our last voyage we did a father and son thing, with dads in the rear and sons up front. It didn't take long for us to realize that the sons lacked horsepower and endurance.
